Hi Steve,

My goal is to build a 20 page flip book (the opening to a novel), but instead of having the text show up on a plain white page, I want to put it on a background that looks like an old, weathered sheet.

If I do each page as a JPEG (or SWF), this will take up a lot of extra memory and increase the loading time quite a bit.

Is there a simple way I can use the weathered sheet as a recurrent symbol? (if this requires modifying the code in Flash 8, I'd appreciate any help you (or others out there) can give me.

Thanks, Rob

Steve, thanks for the input, I will try that.

It would be nice if I could figure out a way to show the flipped corner as that is how we designed it graphically. It seems if you could just simulate the mouseover action so the corner flipped up in the beggining that would be way cool.

Anyways, thanks for the input. If anyone else has done something similar to what I am referring to, I'd love to hear about it.

Thanks again.

Ryan - one good technique I've used is to have the book automatically flip from the last page to the first page when it loads up. On the last frame in the actions layer (11 I think) I'll take out the stop command and put this code:

<code>gotoPage(pageOrder.length,true);</code>

That'll take you to the last page - but you could pick any page. And I'll set the alpha of the book to zero (so it's hidden). Then I'll tween the alpha back to 100 over the span of a few frames (using actionscript... no frame tweens) and then on the final frame of the movie put:

<code>gotoPage(1);</code>

And don't forget to put a stop command on that frame! Visually, it looks pretty cool and I think it shows people that the pages are in fact flippable.

they are gif's one page is about 126 kb but I want to get rid of the preloader for all the pages... I want to load each page separatly without destroying the script

The problem right now is with the fact that it takes to much time to load
:((
If I solve this issue i'll be happy

I am wondering if there is a way to show the corner already flipped on the pages to give the user a clue they can flip the page. I have looked around quite a bit to find an answer to this with no luck. I apologize if this question has already been asked. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi CCH i could well imagine all you'd need to do is to adjust the size in the fla document again (i suppose in the pre mask layer and pages layer), if you resize both the xml file and fla it gets x time the size you resize it in both of them... :)
