I’ve Been Skyped

Posted by 76design on November 18th, 2005

My hands grew weary conversing over IM with a colleague in Toronto. That’s the first reason I started to think there must be a better way.

I over-reacted when context was lost in that same IM conversation and I took some sarcastic comments seriously. That was the second reason.

David Jones has turned me on to Skype and now I’m a prophet.

I gotta tell you. It’s quick. It’s unbelievably easy. And it kicks IM’s butt.

Complex long distance codes? Gone.

Ridiculous long distance charges? Uh, gone.

Kids around here will tell you that I might not be the most techno-snotty, I mean, techno-savvy chick out there but by golly I am a Skyper.

Around here we all seem to have our preferred technology “horses.” Some, not naming any names, are betting heavy on the blogs. Others have placed their money on the Wiki.

Well my friends, my bet is down. I think that VoIP is the next big thing and it will revolutionize how we communicate.

Now if we can just use Skype to podcast…..

Wow, I’m the subject of a blog post…I’m glad that my crankiness turned you on to Skype. And actually, you can use Skype to podcast…I believe that For Immediate Release hosts Shel Holtz and Neville Hobson use Skype to record their podcast. Shel is in California or a hotel room somewhere on the planet and Neville is often in Amsterdam or another hotel room. The show sounds great, so there you go!

Can you amend your post and hyperlink the Skype mention. The techno-snotty may want to download Skype for themselves.

This David Jones fellow sounds like an interesting cat. I bet he has lots of neat stuff he could tell us about… Does he have a blog of his own?

My wife and I have been using Skype to stay in touch with relatives in Europe. We’re been really impressed with the audio quality and how easy it is to use. My next cellphone, the Nokia N80 should be able to skype over WiFi once the promised s60 client comes out.
